FinishPDF for Chrome

Open FinishPDF’s PDF tools from Chrome and process documents on your device. Your files never leave your device.

Your files never leave your device · Everything is processed on your computer

What the extension accesses

  • Active tab: after you click the FinishPDF toolbar button, the extension reads the active tab’s URL and uses temporary tab and window identifiers to recognize the PDF you chose. It does not request access to your browsing history.
  • HTTPS PDFs: after you choose a tool, the extension may request the exact PDF URL already open in the active tab. The request goes only to the original HTTPS address, omits credentials and referrer information, does not use the browser cache or follow redirects, and stops at 64 MiB. The PDF is never sent to FinishPDF.
  • Local PDFs: access is optional. Chrome exposes this grant as file:///*, while FinishPDF self-limits it to the local PDF open in your current tab and reads it only after you choose a PDF-input tool. The PDF never leaves your device, and all processing happens locally. You can disable this access at any time or use the file picker instead.

What stays in your browser

  • Chrome local storage keeps only your language, local-PDF access preference, and ordered list of pinned tools. Extension localStorage keeps only light or dark theme. Temporary session storage may briefly hold the active source URL and tab context for a one-time workspace handoff; the URL handoff expires after 60 seconds and is deleted when claimed.
  • To protect your work if you accidentally refresh, extension-origin IndexedDB can save a temporary recovery copy on your device. This may include your working files, filenames, settings, and completed result. The recovery copy remains on your device for up to 24 hours and cannot be accessed by FinishPDF’s servers. Protect PDF and Unlock PDF workspaces are memory-only and are never saved for recovery. Cache Storage contains only FinishPDF app files, never your documents or images. You can verify what is stored locally using Chrome DevTools.

How the data is used

FinishPDF uses this data only to open the files you selected, run the tool you requested, restore eligible local work, and create your download. Image to PDF starts from images you choose with the file picker and never receives the active tab’s PDF. FinishPDF has no accounts, analytics, telemetry, advertising, session replay, document upload, third-party data sharing, or human review of your files.

Reset or Leave and clear deletes an eligible recovery workspace immediately. Back from a completion screen deletes the saved result while keeping the working files. Expired recovery data is removed the next time FinishPDF opens. You can also revoke local-file access in Extension settings or Chrome.

FinishPDF’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
